Content Update - Getting My Rhythm Back
Hello my friends, and welcome back to my blog.
I just wanted to drop another blog update for you all, as its been a few months since my last content update, and I feel like I really am getting my rhythm back as I am not only hitting deadlines that are allowing me to publish new episodes regularly, but I am also getting ahead of myself, and having fun planning new ideas, so I thought I'd talk a bit about all of that, and give some teases of what is coming next.
Firstly as I said I have released two new episodes recently. My Commission episode was released two weeks ago, and an episode giving my thoughts on Toxic Fandom premiered recently. I am hoping to maintain this fortnightly schedule as I am actually ahead of myself, having gotten the recent episode made well in advance, and already being ahead for many of the upcoming ones. I've found in the past this two weekly schedule has worked quite well for me, allowing me to be productive while not rushing my content. However I am prepared for any eventual setbacks, although I hope such things may not happen, but life can be unpredictable as I'm sure we all know. Even with this though I am optimistic about all of this, and I remain confident that I can keep to this schedule between now and my next anniversary in April.
So what that means is plenty of new episodes coming out, and at regular intervals. This will not only be more rewarding for all of my followers and subscribers, but should also help my growth, allowing new fans to find me, all of which I see as a plus.
So let's talk a bit more about what to expect in the next couple of months:
The Podcast
With a fortnightly schedule the next few months will see two episodes every month, and having plenty of episodes in progress means that I have put the episodes into a schedule to hopefully break up and vary the content so that things don't get repetitive, or at least the best that I can (There's a few Marvel focused episodes in the future). I've also, where applicable, tried to tie some upcoming episodes into important franchise dates and anniversaries where I can, so expect a Star Trek focused episode in September, a Doctor Who one in November, and a Halloween special at the end of October.
But what's next, I hear you ask?
For July you can expect the second part of my X-Men Retrospective. This episode will pick up from where the previous one left off, catching back up with the mutant heroes after some if the biggest challenges in their history so far, but with devastating threats to the entire mutant race in their future. Following that a few weeks later, and just in time to coincide with the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps, I will be returning to look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe (playlist of previous episodes here), except this time to look at whether it is starting to struggle in the wake of diminishing critical and commercial success, especially with the refocus and pivot for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
For August as its the height of summer, I plan to do two more fun episodes. The first is focusing on a series of books from my childhood that has celebrated a huge milestone anniversary this year, and that I would like to highlight not only for its interesting fantastical elements but also the rich world-building of its talented and meticulous author, although I'm going to leave you guessing as to its identity today. Following that will be a long in-development Star Wars episode, taking a look at plenty of the current content under Disney, including the sequel trilogy and other projects connected to it, and the incredible Andor.
As we head into September as I said previously there will be a Star Trek episode to enjoy, specifically taking a look at Star Trek: Picard, analysing its impact and legacy, as well as its value as a sequel to one of the most beloved and popular sci-fi shows ever made. For the latter half of the month though we will be returning to the X-Men, as I complete that retrospective in time for their anniversary.
October will be us three episodes, so before I reveal the Halloween Special I am working on, I can reveal that I am working on a long episode looking at Superman's Legacy across film and television, from the days of his early film and radio serials, across the flagship films starring Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill, television reinventions such as Smallville, Krypton and Superman & Lois, all the way to the latest release by James Gunn. Then we have an episode looking at the stories of Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor, overseen by showrunner Chris Chibnall, and discuss whether they deserve the reputation they seem to have earned among fans.
And the final thing I'm going to announce today is the Halloween Special, where I will be taking a look at Stephen King's It, as well as its film adaptations. It is a story I haven't read or seen before, but I know its a very different type of horror than what I have spoken about before, so I'm very much looking forward to taking a trip to Derry to meet Pennywise and the Losers Club.
As for the rest of the year and into 2026, well I'll reveal more about those episodes in due course, but between geek television and film franchise classics, genre-defining video games and my first forays into anime by looking at some influential pieces that helped to popularise the medium in the West.
The Streaming
I will say in getting back on track for the podcast my streaming has been something that has suffered, but I do believe that with enough preparation and planning I can do both. I still have previously recorded streams to release on my YouTube gaming channel, and I hope to get all the necessary footage to do that and to complete those videos within the next few months.
So besides Half-Life 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I'm also looking for some shorter games that I can try to upload in a single go, or in no more than a couple of streams. I've already got Lego Marvel Superheroes in production, and so the second stream for that will be coming soon. Beyond that I'm considering a few games, with Batman: Arkham Asylum, Portal, Brutal Legend, Sonic the Hedgehog, Inside, Warhammer 40000: Space Marine, Doom: Sigil, Saint's Row, and Resident Evil 4 all being among my top contenders, so expect them to all be coming in the near future, alongside the rest of Half-Life and KOTOR.
And following the completion of the larger games, you can expect to see Control and Fallout: New Vegas as my next big projects, both of which I am very much looking forward to.
The Blog
So there are two types of content that seem to get posted here on the blog, besides updates like this one. First is editorial opinion style pieces, and with the few examples I have so far they have been later turned into podcast releases because I'm proud of them. I can't guarantee that this won't happen again, as my blog is the perfect place to work through some of my ideas and thoughts like that, as with the recent Toxic Fandom blog that became a podcast episode. That was an idea I had been toying with in various forms for some time, and never thought I had enough to make a full episode, until the Variety article allowed me to link several seemingly disparate elements to create that blog. Now while this may happen again, and I might get struck with inspiration for another idea, but I don't have any other ideas that I have currently been drafting like that, but there are plenty of opinions I have on some geek-adjacent topics that I'm sure might just need a new development to spring back to the fore.
The other main type of content published here are my timelines and watch orders. Of these I have a couple of ideas that I am working on, notably for Warhammer 40,000 and Doctor Who, but only in a minor way at present, as they will be very large projects. I am however planning to update one of my previous Watch Orders with some new content, and that is my Star Wars one. In fact what I am planning to do is split the timeline part of that blog out into an entry of its own, into which I can also include the new canon of Star Wars novels and audiobooks by Disney, and perhaps one day also the latest comics published by Marvel. This will make it more similar to the timeline I have done for the shared Aliens and Predator universe. The biggest reason why I want to do this for Star Wars is that some areas of the timeline are very underdeveloped if the books aren't included, most notably the High Republic era, but also the Rebellion Era around the Original Trilogy. I had previously added the video games which helped somewhat in this regard, by adding titles like Outlaws, Battlefront II and Jedi: Survivor, but there's still a lot more than can be included. I will do this soon, when I add the novels, and it will be further updated in the future when comics are added to the timeline.
The only other blog I have in active production at this point is my Alternate Marvel Thought Experiment. This finally started to come together recently, after PLENTY of research, and so I am hoping to get this up by the end of July. It may also be a podcast in the future, but that is not the main goal at this point. The goal is simply to finish composing it, explaining why I made the choices I did, with all the relevant research, and get it published. I've made some interesting choices, and I think I can justify them, so I'm excited to share that and hopefully prompt an interesting discussion off of the back of it.
So yeah, that is the plan going forward for the next few months, and I remain fully confident that this is all possible. I really hope all of you wil join me on this journey, and I fully hope that you will agree that the content is very much worth the wait.
Until next time my friends I want you all to look after yourselves the very best you can, both physically and mentally, and I will speak to you all again soon. Please follow me if you aren't already - you can find all the links here on my Linktree.
Bye for now.
