My First Blog and Update

Hello my friends, and welcome to the first Garhdo Goes Geek blog post.

Garhdo Goes Geek is a podcast that I, Garhdo, have been running and publishing episodes for for over 3 years now. I began in April 2021 during the last COVID lockdowns here in the UK, as a way of combatting some of the mental health stresses I was under by giving myself fun things to talk about, discussing some of my favourite fandoms in film, TV, comics and video games. What started as an occasional hobby soon became something I very much looked forward to, and a shining bright spot in periods of very low mental health. I got excited thinking about what I would discuss next, what things on my long watchlist I would like to finally cross off by talking about them with my small but loyal audience. I even gradually bought in both of my partners to help cohost on selected episodes, to give alternate perspectives.

It has been a lot of fun over this past 3plus years, and while I have absolutely no intention of stopping any time soon, I am in a transitory phase with the podcast for a multitude of reasons, and as I am not putting content out currently I wanted to provide some form of update.

Firstly, due to a confluence of issues, I seem to be currently in the middle of the worst mental health episode I have ever had. I have been open about my struggles with mental health in the past, and I am currently seeking help for the issues I am facing, however I am currently getting therapy for PTSD due to childhood trauma, and I expect it will be a long road to recovery. As I said my podcast has always been a positive activity in times like this, but when struggling with motivation due to low mood it has been hard to record anything.

Secondly, I feel like I am behind on my podcast. I have spoken previously about plans I have had for both last year and this year. As I said with the podcast becoming something I was very excited for, and something I wanted to use to clear things from my watch list, I had planned episodes significantly in advance, often based around important anniversaries for the respective franchises. However I put a hold on some of the things I wanted to talk about last year as a result of the combined SAG-AFTRA/Writers Guild of America strike action, only returning to that suspended content once that was over. However obviously this has pushed back all of my plans, creating a knock-on effect I am still trying to work through, by prioritising the episodes I can get ready within the best timeframe.

Finally, the host website I use to record and edit my podcast is changing it's recording software in the coming weeks, retiring what it currently has available to replace it with new software. I am not a fan of the new recording tools, finding them to not provide what I am used to,wanting that elements of my podcast will inevitably change in one way or another as I have to find a new host or recording tools, or do my own editing. I'm not a fan of sudden changes, and I am quite proud of the consistent tone my podcast has, with formatting, music cues, video cards, etc all creating what I feel is a unified product for my audience. Knowing that I'm some way or another this will change, even if said change is eventually for the better, is disconcerting.

So that is the current "state of play" as it were for the podcast.

That said there are things coming. I'm currently working on episodes focused on the Jurassic Park franchise, Star Trek: Picard, the Doom video game series, Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who run, and the rest of my X-Men comics retrospective, as well as two episodes on the Star Wars franchise under Disney. I am also working on reviews for the Fallout streaming series, the X-Men 97 cartoon, and the last year of Marvel Cinematic Universe content. And finally I have both the commissioned episode for the Skibidi Toilet series which I am currently watching my way through, as well as plans for my upcoming hundredth episode with my partners as we look at the Cornetto Trilogy.

I cannot promise when all of this will arrive just yet, only that it will be released when it is ready. I also don't want to promise anything more beyond this yet, as I don't feel right promising it if I am unsure when or if I can deliver it.

I'm going to sign off for now, but I hope you all look after yourself the very best that you can, taking as much care of your mental and physical health as you are able to.

I love you all. Until next time.
